Clogged drains can be disastrous for any development, leading to costly downtime and potential health hazards. At DAB we understand the importance of a well-functioning wastewater system.
Planning for Smooth Flow:
Here are some key considerations to remember as you start planning your wastewater management system.
• Wastewater System Design: During the planning phase, it is important to conduct a thorough analysis of the building’s projected wastewater volume and usage patterns. This ensures the system is adequately sized to handle peak flows without backups.
• Smart Layout: The layout of the wastewater system is crucial. It is important to prioritise straight pipe runs with minimal bends and junctions where clogs are more likely to occur. Proper pipe gradients are also essential to maintain consistent flow velocity and prevent solids from settling.
• Material Selection: The right materials make a big difference. It is recommendto use high-quality, durable piping materials like cast iron or PVC that can withstand wear and tear and resist corrosion from harsh chemicals.
Built in Preventative Measures with DAB Pumps:
• Grease Interceptor Integration: For restaurants and food service establishments, it is recommended to integrate grease interceptors into the wastewater system design. These traps capture FOG before they enter the main lines, preventing buildup and potential blockages downstream.
DAB Sewage Pumps: When gravity isn’t enough, strategically placed DAB sewage pumps FX Range & FKV can be incorporated into the design. These heavy-duty submersible pumps are designed to handle wastewater containing solids, efficiently transferring effluent from lower levels like basements or restrooms to the main drainage line. DAB pumps are known for reliability, durability, and ability to handle challenging wastewater conditions.
FX Range – The design focuses on reliability and strength. Mechanical seals are enclosed to prevent contact with liquids. Components like stainless steel motor shafts and special coatings ensure durability. New, compact motors offer high resistance to blockages and steady performance. They can even operate partly submerged for tank draining. The four models available are as follows:
• Drenag FX: Drainage pumps featuring rubber coatings to minimize wear from sand and abrasive particles. Ideal for flood-prone environments requiring high head capabilities.
• Grinder FX: Pumps equipped with a robust stainless steel grinder system, suitable for high-pressure sewage water transfer and cost-effective narrow piping installations.
• Feka FXC: Pumps equipped with anti-clogging channel impellers, designed for drainage and effluent/sewage water transfer. Capable of handling solids up to 50mm with reduced presence of long fibers.
• Feka FXV: Pumps featuring a patented super vortex impeller for enhanced performance. Maintains high efficiency in handling large solids and long fibers, ensuring unobstructed passage.
The pumps are easy to maintain with accessible parts and universal spare components. A new impeller design boosts efficiency and reduces power usage, maintaining a wide passage for debris. Accessories simplify upgrades and replacements, while installation is made easier with a smaller size and threaded connections.
NgPanel and the DConnect app allow remote monitoring and control, even from afar. They provide real-time data and alerts, helping to manage and respond to system issues promptly. This smart technology ensures constant oversight and proactive measures against potential flooding, crucial in today’s changing climate.
FKV
The FKV submersible pump is engineered for efficient wastewater and sewage removal in various settings including residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Its vortex impeller boasts a non-clogging design, maximizing solid handling capability. These pumps feature a robust cast iron vortex impeller with an innovative anti-clogging profile, ideal for handling fluids containing long fiber solids, gases, and slurries.
Key features include a double cartridge mechanical seal with SiC/SiC silicon carbide on the hydraulic side and SiC/C silicon carbide on the motor side, suitable for diverse operational conditions. The pump is driven by a high-efficiency three-phase asynchronous motor with a squirrel cage rotor, achieving IE3 efficiency class.
Operating within a pH range of 6.5 to 12, the FKV can handle up to 20 starts per hour. It is equipped for continuous S1 motor operation when fully submerged or S3 operation with intermittent immersion. Additional features include a water infiltration sensor in the oil chamber (optional), overtemperature sensors in the motor windings, and long-life lubricated bearings rated for a minimum of 50,000 hours.
The pump incorporates a stainless steel motor shaft for enhanced durability and fatigue strength. Available in nominal powers ranging from 1.1 kW to 11 kW, an ATEX version ensures safe operation in potentially explosive environments. The maximum installation depth is 20 meters with an appropriate cable length, and for applications involving liquid temperatures above +40°C, consultation with the sales office is recommended.
Cleanout Access Points and Maintenance Planning:
• Cleanout Access Points: Strategic placement of cleanout access points throughout the system allows for easy inspection and maintenance. This allows plumbers to quickly identify and address clogs before they cause major problems.
• Maintenance Planning: Collaborating with construction, engineering, and planning teams to create a comprehensive wastewater system maintenance plan is crucial for ensuring the system’s longevity. This includes regular inspections, cleaning schedules, and recommendations for professional hydro-jetting services to remove accumulated debris.
• Educating Building Owners: Empowering building owners. Installers should provide clear guidance on proper waste disposal practices and staff training to minimise the risk of blockages caused by non-flushable items.
By prioritising a well-designed and well-maintained wastewater system during the construction phase, the risk of costly blockages can significantly be reduced. This proactive approach, incorporating reliable solutions like DAB pumps, ensures a smooth-running building, minimizes downtime for businesses, and contributes to a more sustainable and healthy environment.
